Cultural film season arrives at Roxy

A series of indie and cultural movies made globally and in the UAE will be screening at Roxy cinemas, after an agreement has been reached with film club The Scene.

Emirati film producer and director, Nayla Al Khaja, who is also founder of The Scene, announced the collaboration, which will aim to deliver the most current festival films in their original formats to big screens across the city. Roxy is the Meraas-backed cinema company with outlets in City Walk, The Beach, JBR and the recently opened boutique, luxury branch in BoxPark.

The partnership wants to put local film-making talent firmly in the spotlight. “Our talent is here, it’s time to show them,” said Al Khaja. UAE-grown filmmakers like Abdulrahman Al Madani, Safia Al Mansouri and Aisha Al Zaabi are three of the artists whose films will be shown across Roxy outlets.

Most recently screened by The Scene is Paterson, a story of the trials and triumphs of daily life, following a New Jersey bus driver played by Adam Driver, known for his role as Kylo Ren in the latest Star Wars trilogy. The movie has received rave reviews for its poetry, innocence and goodness, and has won six awards at various global festivals.

Existing members of The Scene will be able to watch all 24 of its unique titles at Roxy Cinemas, all complimentary as part of annual membership. New members will also benefit from the offer, and if you’re interested in joining the movie club head to www.thesceneclub.com.
